Afterpay Hardship

Are you having a trouble paying your Afterpay bills each month? Then you might want to take advantage of Afterpay Hardship. This is a program and policy that Afterpay offers to customers that are facing financial issues due to a number of factors.

Afterpay Hardship

If you are facing financial hardship we recommend reaching out to Afterpay customer support as soon as possible. Let them know what the financial difficulties you are facing and ask about this policy.

According to Afterpay they have a dedicated support team just for dealing with these types of hardship cases.

Afterpay lists these are issues that will consider under the Afterpay Financial Hardship policy;

  • COVID-19 (see our COVID-19 page for more information)
  • Natural disaster
  • Being out of work
  • Family violence
  • Injury or illness
  • Loss of a loved one
  • Relationship breakdown

Afterpay can offer to put your BNPL debt on a payment plan, move the dates when money comes out of your account, or even waiving Afterpay late fees.

Will I still be able to use Afterpay?

We can’t speak for all Afterpay users and customers but generally if you reach out to Afterpay and work with them, you should be able to use Afterpay in the future. Most of they will put you on a payment plan to pay off your Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) loans. Once all outstanding balances are paid, you should be able to use your Afterpay account in the future.

Granted you will not be able to make any new purchases using Afterpay while paying off your BNPL debts. Also when Afterpay re-enables your spending limit, it will be much lower. We have seen Afterpay customers state it will be $100 to $200 depending on your spending history.

It’s bad to get in over your head but I totally understand why this can happen. I was once out of work due to a workplace accident and had to return to work on a part-time basis. I didn’t use BNPL services then but easily could have fallen behind on a lot of payments if I had any.

Just be mindful of the outstanding BNPL debts you have if you are a frequent Afterpay, Klarna, Affirm, etc. user. It’s nice though that there is an Afterpay Hardship program if customers need it.
